This page is devoted to Greyhound dogs that are rescued from the racetrack. Each year, tens of thousands of these gorgeous dogs end their racing career at the track. Most are put down.

There are many volunteer "rescue" groups that search out individuals and families who would like to adopt a retired racer. The group we belong to is GLOHW. Be sure to visit their website! When the dogs come from the racetrack, they are bathed, cleaned, then neutered and fully checked out by a veterinarian.
Next they go to a foster home for a one or two week stay (that's where we come in). Here we teach them to climb stairs, walk on a lead, adjust their diet to a wholesome pet food, and generally help them adjust to "retirement". After that, they are taken to their forever family, that has adopted them.
